Health
In Nepal, particularly in rural areas, the lack of adequate healthcare infrastructure contributes to alarming statistics. According to recent data, a significant number of lives are lost due to preventable causes, underscoring the urgent need for improved healthcare access. Limited medical facilities and resources often result in delayed or inadequate treatment, exacerbating health disparities. Our Background
Mr. Saurav Rimal, an alumnus of Stratford University, USA and an entrepreneur in IT solutions, was left dumbstruck when the Covid lockdown forced everything shut and all movements were restricted. Recovering himself from covid infection, he was at a dilemma and felt totally lost as he had no idea where to begin.
Meanwhile, the news about the shortages of essentials required to fight the pandemic started pouring in which gave him a push to contribute something to the society during these hard times. Saurav, together with his friends and in close association with the Nepal Traffic Police, started formulating Hand Sanitizers which was distributed to Hospitals, Clinics, Essential Workers and Households.
While his movement was made possible by the Traffic Police, he witnessed the plight of the Street Dogs, Cows and Monkeys, that largely fed on human kindness and leftovers, were totally neglected leaving them hungry and sick. Saurav, then used his own savings to feed these animals on a daily basis. His endeavor was well appreciated and other friends and acquaintances started contributing to this cause and by the time the lockdowns were lifted, he was feeding approximately “300 dogs/200 monkeys/50” cows on a daily basis.
Saurav also witnessed the difficulties faced by the daily wage earners, beggars and marginalized community living in Kathmandu. Bereft of their wages, they were in dire straits to eke out daily hand to mouth needs as well as to keep them warm in winter months. He started distributing food, medicines, blankets and warm clothes to the most deserved reaching out to over 5000 families.
Then the flood and landslides occurred in many parts of the country leaving many people homeless. He, with the help from his friends and well wishers, distributed relief materials, comprising of tarpaulin, food and other essentials, medicine and clothing to more than 2000 affected families. He was also accompanied by a group of medical professionals to tend to the needy at the spot and also to monitor their health conditions.
Saurav received a lot of accolades, citations, awards and media exposure for his work during and post pandemic. He was also recently conferred with prestigious Presidential “Samaj Sewa Ratna” medal in recognition for his outstanding and relentless service to the society.
This is when he realized that he now needs to take his initiatives to next level which is how Karmayog Foundation was founded.x
