What we care for
School Infrastructure Strengthening
Most of the government schools in remote areas, where Karmayog Foundation focuses its activities, lack some kind of facility or other i.e. Dilapidated Buildings, Shortage of Classrooms, Poor Sanitation Facility, Playground etc. Karmayog Foundation plans to intervene and provide assistance to create better learning environment, where necessary. Such assistance shall be provided upon consultation with the School Head Master, School Management Committee and Local Leaders to ensure sustainability and avoid duplicity.
Education, Sports Development and Extra-curricular Activities
This is an ongoing program where Karmayog Foundation has been providing the school children with School Uniforms, Warm Clothes, Shoes, Reading & Writing Materials and Sports Equipment. The Foundation envisages implementing the following programs to raise the education standard and widen the horizon of the school children as well as the teachers:
a. Teachers’ Training Program to enhance teaching methods;
b. Setting-up E-Libraries to provide exposure to E-Learning;
c. Create Sports Facility, where appropriate (based on the school compound);
Health, Hygiene, Nutrition and Sanitary awareness programs
Till date, the Foundation has conducted several health camps in the schools in 3 Districts by volunteer doctors, nurses and other health professionals to monitor the health of the children as well as the community participants where we carried out health check-ups, provided necessary medicines, distributed sanitary products and imparted awareness on health, hygiene and sanitation. This program shall be carried out at regular intervals.
Nutrition is critical for the mental and physical growth of the children. Although the children in the project area are not malnourished, they lack proper nutritional intake required for their overall growth. The Foundation plans to distribute appropriate ‘nutritious fruit saplings’ to the school and community to supplement their nutrition intake as well as to raise some income for the families.
Humane Education
The fragmentation of the joint family system, especially in urban areas but at lesser extent in the rural areas, and advent of satellite families everywhere has deprived children the learning of societal values and co-existence. This issue has neither been taken seriously nor addressed properly. The Foundation has plans to develop training materials in consultation with experts which shall be targeted to the students in urban areas including Kathmandu.
Income Generation Activities
The Foundation is working on various income generating activities for the community in the target area i.e. Handicraft Promotion, Soap and Candle Production and other appropriate products based on the available resources in the area. Training Workshops shall be conducted to enhance their existing skills to make better products.
Trainings on Sweater Weaving, Sewing etc. shall be imparted to women in the project area including seed money to be provided by the Foundation as a loan. Women Groups shall be formed in each community to carry out these activities in a sustainable manner. The Foundation aims to buy back the products with reasonable profit to the community and sell the products in urban centers including Kathmandu. Meanwhile, the Foundation always welcomes suggestions from experts for any other sustainable activities that shall elevate the living standards of the target populace.
Skill Development Centerucation
Nepal is a popular tourist destination and attracted almost 1 million visitors in pre-pandemic days. Though the sector has taken its toll due to pandemic, the scenario is promising as is evident from the phenomenal growth in hotel industry in major tourist destinations. The recent addition of two international airports shall also bring more tourists into the country creating a huge demand for the workforce in the hospitality sector.
Therefore, Karmayog Foundation is working on a Concept Proposal to establish a Hospitality Training Center in the mountain of Chepang Village; one of our project areas where the most underprivileged and marginalized community are housed; combined with a Mountain Resort to impart various trainings required for the hospitality industry. This center shall be affiliated with prestigious hospitality training institutes i.e. NATHM etc. who shall provide accreditation and give pass-out certificates so that the trainees can easily be absorbed in the hospitality sector. This being a capital intensive project, the Concept Proposal shall be floated to prospective donors before proceeding with further activities.
Environment Protection
Karmayog Foundation encourages the community in the project area to plant trees to protect the environment as well as to raise their income levels. The Foundation shall be distributing appropriate tree saplings suitable to their topography; to the communities especially those trees that controls soil erosion, helps water retention and generates income for the families in the long run. This program shall be carried out in consultation with forestry experts.
Animal Welfare
This is an ongoing program though not on a regular basis due to normalization of the situation post pandemic. Generous contributors and people long connected with this program keep providing funds to feed these animals on their special occasions i.e. Birthdays etc.
However, the Foundation has plans to establish a “Canine Shelter and Rehabilitation Center” in the future for which a separate proposal shall be developed.
By investing in children, together, we have the opportunity to create real, long-lasting change for families and communities around the world
